ABSTRACT

The Pareto principle, commonly known as the 80-20 rule, states that for a number of phenomena 80 percent of the events or outcomes are the result of 20 percent of the causes. Most often, the Pareto principle is heard in the context of economics and business: 80 percent of the wealth is held by 20 percent of the population, 80 percent of the profi t comes from 20 percent of your products, 80 percent of your profi t comes from 20 percent of your customers, and so on. Of course, the Pareto principle applies in a number of criminological contexts as well.
