ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the understanding of communication: understanding the speech communication process, message, channel, audience, and response relating to delivering information. This first chapter sets the stage for thinking about the importance of communicating and the need for emotion, confidence, organization, attention to detail, and a degree of technological savviness to create supplemental material. The chapter ends with a focus on the ethics revolving around public speaking, how we communicate to a global audience regularly through technology, and the honor associated with talking to a group of people.
