ABSTRACT

When supervising practicum students or interns, supervisor is one of a fairly short list of professional contacts who has direct knowledge of their work. V. S. Harvey and J. A. Struzziero's comprehensive text on supervision in school psychology, which addresses special considerations for the supervision of practicum students and interns. To facilitate a collaborative working relationship, a university-based supervisor is typically designated as the point person for maintaining regular contact with the field site. Regular communication with the university-based supervisor is important for supporting interns and practicum students, especially when problems arise. One particular consideration that the model highlights with respect to terminating supervision is the importance of talking specifically about how the nature of supervisor’s relationship with the supervisee will change following the end of the experience. It's essential to work collaboratively with supervisor’s university-based supervisor to discuss ways that training requirements can be met while working within the realities of supervisor’s position.
