ABSTRACT

Teachers are making great progress: Teacher have a high-stakes plot and a set of questions to guide the narrative. Teachers are ready to define the lesson-by-lesson progression–the learning outcomes for each "chapter" of the narrative. When teacher hear "learning outcome," teachers are probably thinking about standards, objectives, performance indicators, or related terms. So at this very moment, teacher may be reaching for that binder of standards or pulling up teachers objectives online. The approach puts meaningful content first and positions standards as indicators that serve the larger story. This chapter focuses on generating learning outcomes; Teacher will align those with thier standards/objectives, activities, and assessments. If teacher teach a mostly skills-based subject such as math, teacher may be wondering whether or how this approach applies. In this case, that statements illuminate the principles behind the skills as well as their application.
