ABSTRACT

Eva Koumpli applies a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to her work with eating disorders. This chapter provides an introduction to neuroscientific and psychological research in the field of eating disorders. Her case study focuses on her work with a sufferer of diabulimia, work that is supported by role theory and role analysis. Her approach includes providing a space for the client to explore the conflicting messages of the voice of the eating disorder and of their wellness. She also uses scene setting, concretisation and the mirror position to support her client to take a mindful and compassionate look at her feelings, thoughts and underlying beliefs. She also describes how she works with the underlying relational trauma, and reflects on the importance of managing her own countertransference.
