ABSTRACT

Psychodrama as a practice is based in the core principles of creativity and spontaneity. As a method, it is informed by the traditions of expressionism and the concept of the encounter. The author makes comparisons between psychodrama as a group method and as an individual practice, raising important questions about frame, the pace and rhythm of the work, and ethical issues such as the use of touch. She emphasises the importance of psychodramatic thinking on the part of the therapist. Following the principle of “show me don’t tell me”, illustrations are used to demonstrate key concepts.
