ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the psychodramatic technique of concretisation, and its value as a means of playing with perspective is illustrated through a series of clinical vignettes. The purpose of these includes finding a focus for the work of a session, creating a small world depiction of a particular situation, analogous to sand tray work, working through a transference of situation to unpack the psychodynamic origins of a problem, making a timeline, working with social atom and family sculpts, and development of functional roles. In each case, the vignettes are presented as dialogue interspersed with reflective commentary, and there are numerous pictorial illustrations to bring out the immediacy and visual impact of the method.
