ABSTRACT

Scaling works very well when working with anxiety as it allows students to rate how much the worry is impacting upon them. Scaling is the process of helping a student to identify the severity or intensity of their feelings. Unfortunately, for many students their levels of anxiety reach such heights that they are unable to function and in some cases, attend school. Like all skills, anxiety training needs to be practised. Within the broader term of anxiety there are a number of types, some of which can impact upon a student’s well-being. When teachers notice a student is displaying signs of anxiety it is important to act quickly and have a chat to the student to prevent the anxiety level escalating. Within the conversation the causes of the anxiety can be established, which then leads to action being taken to reduce it.
