ABSTRACT

In a perfect world a student who has been diagnosed as having depression is receiving help from a psychologist or counsellor and the external professional is feeding back information so that the student can be further supported at school. A challenge faced by many counsellors in schools is when students present who have self-diagnosed and state they are depressed. Having knowledge about depression allows a counsellor to ask the right questions to try and find out what has caused the student to feel as they do. As a part of counselling in a school, strategy can also be taught to help a student. In counselling, a student can talk about how they have applied the secrets. The best counselling training courses will teach teachers some new skills or techniques whilst having teachers work in a small group so teachers can get feedback on teachers' counselling techniques.
