ABSTRACT

The aim of the Solution-Focused Counselling Model is to provide any counsellor/teacher with a simple process to follow in counselling. The model follows a very simple plan that allows for a student to open up and talk before identifying the changes they would like to see happen. Scaling Questions are used to gain an understanding of how much impact the problem is having on a student’s well-being. It also allows the counsellor to set a benchmark to track progress, which is also very helpful throughout the counselling process. A student has indicated that they are being bullied and have come to the counselling session seeking help. The follow-up counselling session is very important as it allows the counsellor a chance to talk to the student and to hear about how the student went in implementing the changes. A common challenge for many teachers who work in counselling roles is ending the counselling relationship.
