ABSTRACT

The role of teachers within a school is often varied and one of the variations that can occur is being asked to complete some career counselling for students. On many occasions this request is a part of a counselling process; however, in some school settings it is the responsibility of a teacher to provide career counselling for students. This chapter presents a case study of Jasmine. With no background in the subjects and a dislike of Maths, Jasmine failed both subjects. Again, Jasmine had to write essays and complete exams which she was not good at and again she failed all of her subjects. The result of all of this was that Jasmine was feeling very worthless and very uncertain about her future. Career counselling is challenging, particularly when students have no idea about what it is that they want to do. There are many free online programmes that provide reliable information to students about career interests.
