Debunking the Myths of Aging

Defining the elderly is difficult because we may be referring to mental age, chronological age or emotional age. Webster's New World Dictionary includes definitions such as; having been in existence a long time, mature in judgement, made or produced some time ago etc. These ambiguous definitions pertain to the elderly who are somewhat old, past middle age or approaching old age. Nevertheless, a definition assists in the recognition that the elderly are a group who have special characteristics and needs that are too often ignored.
