ABSTRACT

This paper outlines the process of Planned Family Intervention, Johnson Institute Method. The authors explain that, although too seldom used, Planned Family Intervention is an extremely successful and appropriate response to the disease of chemical dependency. They describe five widely held myths which hinder family and friends, and many family therapists, from offering help to the chemically dependent person. They also present the major educational themes and the dynamics which lead to a well-orchestrated and successful intervention. Planned Intervention is presented as a beginning of family recovery for this family disease.
