ABSTRACT

Props need to control liquids for a variety of reasons. Many of realistic kitchen plays require a sink with running water. Blood needs to drip, ooze, or spray from an actor or a prop. If the actors will drink the water, need to make sure every pipe and fitting is designed to be potable, or safe to drink. PVC pipe, copper, and flexible vinyl tubing are all usually safe for drinking water. PVC pipes and fittings can connect just by pushing them snugly together, but to avoid them popping apart from water pressure, need to use PVC cement. The single most common running water effect on stage is a kitchen sink. We have a few basic ways for delivering running water which can use or adapt. These methods are also useful for an onstage shower or a well pump. For a gravity-fed system, a large container is placed a few feet higher than the sink.
