ABSTRACT
By making comparisons across 129 U.S. industrial sectors, Chapter II demonstrated the constraining effects of export dependence on trade protectionism. These effects are now to be more concretely delineated in an illustrative case study of the U.S. machine tool industry in this and the next chapter.
