ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a module that explains the association between academic motivation and school belonging, and provides activities that promote motivation and positive thinking. The contents help to relate the value of school and education with academic goals, create and organise a study routine and recognise the importance of learning from mistakes and positive thinking. The activities in this module can be used with a group or class or adapted to work with an individual student. It is good to invite students to take a few minutes to complete the second part of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis worksheet, identifying one specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely goal related to class or school, based on their SWOT analysis, and several steps they can take to start pursuing that goal. One of the challenges that schools face are the high number of disengaged students.
