ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a module that explores the relationship between mental health and school belonging. It aims to help students understand themselves and identify relevant support resources. The chapter shows students how to assess stress level and mental health, identify and evaluate different coping strategies and list their own personal help seeking resources. The module aims to help students develop skills and confidence for coping with challenges, seek help when needed, and to feel empowered to help others. The activities come from a proactive framework, helping to prevent bigger mental health problems from occurring. However, if any student presents with suicide ideation, depression, anxiety, or other major mental health concerns, it’s important to take appropriate steps to refer them to therapy or other forms of professional support. The module presented touches on some preventative and proactive strategies for supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people.
