1.1 Background

The construction sector is considered by many as one of the major pillars of a country’s economy, but also one of the most dangerous industries (Enshassi, 1996). The policies adopted to increase productivity in the sector vary from country to country and depend on the strategy of each company. However, occupational safety and health have been widely recognized as two of the most influential aspects in companies’ overall performance and have been gradually no longer seen as a luxury and came to be seen as a necessity to avoid losses, injuries or even deaths (Abdul-Rashid et al., 2007). Over time, increasing competencies in project management has enabled greater emphasis on this issue, focusing on workers’ safety and health (Wong et al., 2002).
