ABSTRACT
The theme of spiritual transformation is explored in a reading of Dennis Potter’s The Singing Detective with the Book of Job, in which both protagonists move from places of great suffering into new life and insight. An existential poetics is initiated utilising the method of autobiographical biblical criticism and Cixous’ reading and writing practices.
