ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how to learn the neurobiology of motivation and addresses the most fundamental strategies in business environment. It also discusses the extent to which these motivational strategies are universal, cultural, and context-dependent. The chapter focuses on the way dopamine works with reward, the extent to which genes influence motivation, and discusses how culture and behavior play a role in this complex interaction. It also focuses on the most cited motivational theory-the pyramid of needs by Maslow-and reviews its application through different approaches. The chapter looks at the extent to which salary plays a significant role in different group cultures and contexts. It addresses the universal advantages of meaningful work, the extent to which it is influenced by culture and context, and strategies to cultivate meaningful work among employees. The chapter demonstrates that motivation is influenced by a dynamic interaction of genetic makeup, cultural background, environment, neural pathway, and everyday behaviour.
