ABSTRACT

On her wedding day, County Mayo native Liz received a purple Galway Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) jersey as a gift from her father-in-law. It was his way of saying, “Welcome to the family,” since her new husband was from Carraroe, in the Connemara region of County Galway. But marrying into a family of Galway fans wasn’t about to change her loyalties; her team is still the green-and-red clad lads from Mayo. Similarly, a journalist who has lived and worked around County Galway for more than 20 years still roots for his native Mayo.
