ABSTRACT

The history of the cannabis plant is still debatable. Some scholars believe the first traces of the plant derive from ancient China, while others hypothesize the origins stem from ancient India. It is generally accepted that early humans recognized the medicinal, psychoactive, and industrial components of the cannabis plant. While growing in popularity in Asia and spreading to Africa, Europe, and finally migrating to the United States, cannabis was viewed as a plant with many useful applications from ship sails to rope.
