ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a gendered analysis of the contemporary slavery literature, as well as providing the historical context of the Kamaiya system. It examines some of the limited examples of gendered analysis within the existing literature. Also, this gives an overview of the transition to freedom and some of the post-bondage issues amongst the Kamaiya community highlighted by the literature.
