ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the nature of successful teamwork and the components of effective change management. It addresses the challenge of developing our team, with an emphasis upon positive self-talk and optimism. It is a truism that nobody is perfect, but a team can be. As the English subject leader one of our biggest challenges is to facilitate people working together as an effective team. A team is a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals, and approach for which they are mutually accountable. The English subject leader is ultimately responsible for everybody in the school who has a part to play in delivering effective English teaching. Teamwork is most effective when everybody knows what they are seeking to achieve and understands their part in the process. A clearly articulated vision provides a picture of where the school is going and what outstanding teaching and learning look like.
