ABSTRACT

In Chapter 8, our examination of police practices begins with the encouragement of increased and enhanced contact with the community. We address both in text and visually the individual officer’s Protective Stance and the Risk Radius and their relationship to the officer’s safety. These fundamentals are then blended into the positive position of the officer(s) and others through the Encounter Formula and the deployment of Communication and Control elements. The application and removal of handcuffs are offered in both the preferred dual officer and single officer modes. Finally, management of non-compliant individuals is addressed with the use of standing, kneeling, and prone positions and techniques.
