ABSTRACT

The global media landscape, predominantly through digital platforms, is becoming ever more interlinked, complex, and dynamic. More people have access to a growing number of social and digital platforms for consumption of and input into the vast media offering of stories, music, pictures, videos, comments, responses, and other elements that comprise the available content from around the planet. News media contribute significantly to the content that is published and uploaded, minute by minute around the world. However, in the digital age, individuals spend more time consuming or producing games, movies, music, and social media than they do any other form of Internet activity. As a consequence, media professionals using digital and social media on the Internet are unable to control factors such as accuracy, sources, perspectives, impartiality, and balance. A fundamental role for journalism is to offer audiences stories that matter to people in their daily-life activities at a local, national, or international level.
