ABSTRACT

This last chapter is, appropriately, about transitions and endings.

Transitions have been described as “little dyings”, turning points in our lives that signal and end of one phase and the beginning of another. Life and work may be seen as a series of stages.

Professionals should understand transitions, and also endings, including the ending of relationships with clients or patients – and especially contentious endings, which need to be thoughtfully managed.

Ending one’s professional career involves preparation, financial, practical and emotional. These are all considered in this concluding chapter.
