ABSTRACT

In redemption of the pledge given to the electors last year, the Government will shortly introduce into the House of Commons a Bill for the unification or nationalization of mining royalties. Such a measure is long overdue, and when introduced the Bill will be the most important piece of legislation in connection with the coal industry since the Act of 1930. It is, therefore, very desirable that the public should understand clearly what is the existing situation, the new situation which the Government will endeavour to establish, and the method by which the desired results are to be attained.
