ABSTRACT

Salient features of all surgical modalities used for dermatologic surgery are described here. Scalpel surgery, hyfrecator, electrocautery, cryosurgery, radiofrequency surgery, and ablative lasers are commonly used for dermatologic surgery. Features of each modality described here will facilitate the reader to understand the minor and major differences between each modality. This will make it easy for selection of the appropriate surgical modality for dermatologic surgery. Chemical cautery is not described being obsolete, whereas electrosurgery features are very similar to radiofrequency surgery (modern electrosurgery) and hence omitted.
