ABSTRACT

Keith Stanovich emphasizes in his book that in contrast to the common belief that we may consider pseudo-science as a way to amuse ourselves, in which some of us are given hope to their heart’s desires while others profit financially, a comprehensive examination of the problem shows that the harm done to our society by pseudo-science is immense and far-reaching. In a complex, highly technological, society, the influence of pseudo-science (as we have seen in the quotes from Lady Globes) may expand through decisions that implicate many around the world – we may be influenced by pseudo-scientific beliefs even if we are not, in any way, connected to or aware of them.
