ABSTRACT

According to Mark Twain the idea for A Connecticut Yankee came to him late in 1884. G. W. Cable, with whom he was on a lecture tour, gave him a copy of Le Morte d ’ Arthur, and Twain became so fascinated by Malory that he began shortly to plan a book dealing with the Middle Ages. By November, 1886, the first chapter was written; more work in 1887 and 1888 completed the tale, and it was published in 1889. 1
