ABSTRACT
“Absence of the Female” refers to two related issues: the absence of female Mark Twain biographers and the absence of women within Twain biography. By identifying the first and exploring the polemics of the second, a paradigm will be introduced where the women in Clemens’ life are granted their importance and where the field of Twain biography may be made more accessible to interested women.
