ABSTRACT

Here is how to celebrate Christmas – a time of cheer. In a communication to their staff recently, one organization showed how to create the right atmosphere and make everyone look forward to the party:

Please remember that this is a work function and an appropriate standard of conduct is expected. With this in mind it is timely that we remind everyone of a few points:

Behavior at the Party

As a work function the Company’s Code of Conduct, Workplace Harassment Bullying and Discrimination Policy, Health and Safety Policy, and Social Media Guidelines apply fully at this event. Copies of these policies can be accessed via the Company’s Policy Library. Please familiarize yourself with these policies and be mindful of your obligations with respect to each of them. Excessive alcohol consumption is no excuse for harassment, bullying or misconduct: it is not an acceptable defense and will not be tolerated. Note that any ‘after party’ events that may follow on after the designated finishing time are undertaken by the employees’ in their own time and are not Company endorsed. Note that the finish time for the work function is 4 pm, any festivities that occur after this time are in your personal time.

Alcohol and Drugs

Food and drinks will be provided at the Christmas party (including alcoholic beverages). If you choose to drink alcohol, ensure that you drink responsibly, be respectful to others and, for your own wellbeing, have plenty to eat. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available.

We remind you that the use of illegal drugs and/or excessive consumption of alcohol is prohibited at all times during the Christmas Party. The Company reserves the right to require the venue to refuse service of alcohol to any member of staff who is, in the Company’s view, behaving inappropriately.

Alcohol service will cease at 3:45 pm and the function will cease at 4 pm and we would expect the function room to be vacated by this time.

100Transport

Our secretaries have arranged transport to ensure people get safely home from the Christmas Party. If you wish to be transported home after the party, please register with one of them if you have not done so already. Naturally we want everyone to enjoy themselves; we also want everyone to arrive home safely.

So if you are thinking about having a drink or two, we ask that you plan your transport home by catching public transport, sharing a ride with friends, riding with a driver who hasn’t been drinking, or arranging for a friend or relative to give you a lift.

If you have any concerns about the above mentioned points, become intoxicated, unwell or your transport arrangements fall through unexpectedly, please don’t hesitate to ask for help by contacting one of us. You will be gladly assisted, including arrangement of safe transport home if necessary. Likewise, if you are concerned about the well-being, safety or behavior of a colleague let one of us know so that appropriate assistance can be provided.

We trust everyone will accept this communication in the right spirit by appreciating that the Company is committed to meet its moral and legal obligations of ensuring your safety and wellbeing, not only in the workplace, but at work-related functions also. None of the above should prevent us from having a great celebration and we look forward to everyone having a great time!
