ABSTRACT
It is possible to deduce from thermodynamic data whether or not a particular reaction can in principle yield a particular set of products in significant amounts; however, thermodynamic data do not give information about the rates of reactions. A reaction may be thermodynamically favourable yet still proceed at an imperceptible rate. The problems in this chapter examine the principles that govern the rates of reactions.
