ABSTRACT

Wetland boundaries were delineated and surveyed in the field in a corridor approximately 47.5 km long and 152.4 m wide across Oswego County and the northern portion of Onondaga County in central New York State. These fielddetermined wetland areas were compared to hydric soils maps and mapped wetlands in the same corridor on federal and New York State maps. The maps were found not to agree and consistently underestimated the extent of wetlands; the federal National Wetlands Inventory maps were the least accurate, with the total wetland area underestimated by 61% compared to that delineated in the field.
