ABSTRACT

There are many different methods of fabric manufacturing, each capable of producing a great variety of structures dependent upon the raw materials used and the setup of control elements within the processes involved. The most commonly used fabric forming methods are interlacing, interlooping, bonding and tufting. Before forming fabrics that involve the use of yarns, the yarns must undergo various stages of preparation. Yarn preparation processes for selected fabric types are as follows: weaving: winding, warping, slashing, drawing-in; knitting: winding, waxing, steaming, warping; and tufting: plying, heat setting, winding or beaming. All of the yarn factors will need to be known by the slashing personnel if they are to do an effective job of sizing the yarns. Some sizes are affected by the heat setting treatment given to the hydrophobic fibers such as nylon and polyester. Selection of the appropriate process technology for production of a nonwoven product may range from the simplest to the most complex ventures.
