ABSTRACT

In 1986, Professor Budugur Lakshminarayana published a well-regarded and much-referenced review of turbulence modelling for complex flows [1]. While this review was very useful in its attempt to determine critically the relative performance of a hierarchy of turbulence models for predicting complex shear flows, it did not include heat transfer effects or thermal turbulence models. Since heat transfer in complex flows remains an extremely important part of turbomachinery design and analysis, the current work attempts to augment Professor Lakshminarayana’s review by examining thermal turbulence models.
