ABSTRACT

This paper describes experimental evaluation of a new type of lattice tubular column used in Baiyun International Airport Terminal, Guangzhou, China. A full-scale test was carried out on the column under axial compression and a set of equipment was designed to apply load on the end of the column. The test results are presented and discussed, including ultimate load, failure mode, load-deformation curve as well as stress conditions in the circular tubes and batten plates. The test indicated that the failure mode was loss of structural stability with one half-wave of combined flexural and torsional deformations between two pinned supports of the column.
