ABSTRACT

The uses of nitrobenzene include: in the production of aniline (about 97.5% of nitrobenzene production is consumed in this process); as a solvent in petroleum refining; in the manufacture of cellulose ethers and acetate; and in the synthesis of acetaminophen. Past uses of nitrobenzene included as a flavoring; as a perfume for soaps, and as a solvent for shoe dyes. Nitrobenzene has a characteristic odor of bitter almonds.
