ABSTRACT
The uses of thallium include: in the semiconductor industry; in the pharmaceutical industry to produce thallium for cardiac imaging; and in the manufacture of refractive optical glass. Thallium was once used as a rodenticide, but was banned in 1972. All thallium used in the United States is imported, since domestic production ceased in 1981.
