ABSTRACT

Toxaphene is an insecticide, which was one of the most widely used in the United States, until banned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1982 because of its demonstrated adverse effects on human and animal health. Since 1982 its use has been restricted to controlling scabies on sheep and cattle; use against grasshopper and army worm infestations on cotton, corn, and small grains; emergency use; and controlling insects on banana and pineapple crops in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
