ABSTRACT
2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene is a high explosive which is widely used by the military in bombs and grenades. It has been used as the pure explosive or in binary mixtures such as cyclotols (mixtures with RDX), octols (mixtures with HMX), amatols (mixtures with ammonium nitrate), and tritonals (mixtures with aluminum). In addition, 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene has been used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of dyestuffs and photographic chemicals.
