ABSTRACT

The uses of vinyl acetate include: primarily in production of polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl alcohol; as a polymeric lubrication oil additive; and in the polymerization process with vinyl chloride to produce polyvinyl butyryl, polyvinyl acetals, and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers. Other uses of polyvinyl acetate include: in non-woven textile fibers, paper coatings, and ink. Polyvinyl acetate emulations are used as adhesives for packaging and wood gluing, and in architectural paint. Polyvinyl alcohol is used in textile finishing, adhesives, and as a raw material for polyvinyl butyryl, which is used as an adhesive interlayer in architectural and automobile safety glass. Uses of other polymers made from vinyl acetate include barriers in packaging, paint and coating applicators, plastic floor coverings, and flexible film and sheeting.
