ABSTRACT

The uses of benzyl chloride include: as a chlorinated derivative to toluene; as a chemical intermediate in production of benzyl compounds, perfumes, dyes, artificial resins, lubricants, photography developing reagents, chemical gum inhibitors, and gasoline; and in pharmaceutical manufacturing of benzathine penicillin, phenobarbital and ammonium chloride bactericides. Benzyl chloride was also used in the past as a lacrimating chemical warfare agent.
