ABSTRACT

The uses of cadmium include: battery manufacturing; pigments in glazes; enamels; in photography; semiconductors; sterilizer for plasters; and plating other metals. The primary use of cadmium is electroplating metals to inhibit corrosion. One major source of non-occupational exposure to cadmium has been found from cigarette smoking, which has been shown to increase blood levels in a dose-related manner with increased number of cigarettes smoked per day.
