ABSTRACT

Cooling the part after forming is as vital as heating but can be even more time-consuming than heating. Therefore, it becomes important to select the appropriate method for it. Sometimes, when forming heavy- gauge parts, which tolerate the least internal stresses, it might be advisable to retard natural cooling by covering the formed part with a soft blanket. To prevent the buildup of high stresses in heavy-gauge parts, it might become also advisable to slightly loosen the clamps holding the sheet during cooling, even though additional shrinkage may take place.
