ABSTRACT

The whole of Capricornus is included, together with a large part of Aquarius and portions of Aquila, Piscis Australis and Sagittarius. The celestial Sea-Goat contains little of immediate interest to the telescope-user. The brightest star is Delta, 49 light-years away and 13 times as luminous as the Sun. The semi-regular variable RT Capricorni can be seen below Sigma. Though it was well below its maximum of magnitude 6.5 when this photograph was taken, it is identifiable because of its intensely red colour. Aquarius was shown in Map 6, and the interesting objects are listed there, but there were two Messier objects which were just outside the borders of that map. A small part of Sagittarius is shown here, including the globular cluster M75. To the top right appears part of Aquila.
