there is hardly a human experience that has not at one time or another been the subject of poetry. Accidents are no exception, and one of Milton’s greatest poems, Lycidas, laments the death of his friend Edward King, who was drowned in 1637 while crossing from Chester to Ireland. The verses offered below reach no such heights, but they may entertain or instruct. Some have been set to music.
