ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the characteristics and technical details of each of three types of surveys and audits: the walk-thru survey, the intermediate audit (mini-audit), and the comprehensive audit. The information will help the auditor determine which type of audit best suits the needs of a particular project. The chapter presents sufficient details to enable more accurate and efficient surveys and audits for both beginning and experienced auditors. It also includes information concerning how to perform data analysis and write reports for each type of survey. An extensive analysis should be performed including calculations of power density, zonal-cavity calculations, and luminaire spacing. Part of the analysis will be to compare existing lighting systems with the current recommendations found in the latest Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNA) Recommended Practices (RP). A maintenance cost analysis should be performed using the data collected in order to minimize the facility lighting maintenance cost.
