ABSTRACT

It is known that suspension friction reduces vehicle ride comfort. But the characteristics of the suspension friction are very difficult to analyze because of their nonlinearity and random input from the road surface. Therefore, there remain many unsolved problems in this area. In this paper, the characteristics of the suspension friction are analyzed using a statistical method and computer simulation technique. As a result of this analysis, the effect of suspension friction on vehicle ride comfort is derived and a target for friction reduction, in consideration of vehicle ride comfort, is proposed.
